How To Spell Resume}

So How Do You Normally Spell Resume?

Would you know in what situation to place the accents? So many questions and so much confusion on this tiny little word; are you going to apply for a job online or are you just writing about the word and not quite sure how it should really be spelled? Do you understand the proper ways to use the accents? Let me help you to understand the proper ways on how to spell resume.

Whats With the Accent Anyways?

Most Americans spell it without any accents, which are completely acceptable, but there is the French version which the accent is (rsum), but again, the average person would not need to use these accents; especially when writing an actual resume. The computer its self must be able to find the words to sort them properly; symbols throw them off and create very strange results like (#r@$sum#) , this would be very damaging in your job search to say the least. Its important to use actual words in your resume if you want the computer to find it and recognize that you submitted it. So drop the accents and write resume, not rsum, or resum on the actual resume.

With all due respect and diligent research, it appears that there seems to be much debate and consideration on the appropriate spelling of rsum. It apparently appears that resume has become the standard, but is that because the lazy Americans cant make the effort of inserting foreign emphasis on syllables?

Where Does the Accent Go?

This is not a question the average job-seeker needs to become stressed about. Resume and rsum are always acceptable. Resum is apparently very widely used and allowed as well, although it should be avoided in areas whenever language skills are favored. Whichever spelling you prefer, make sure you use it consistently except in the case of using online where again, it can be a misconfiguration by the internet itself. There have been many different opinions about using one accented e, and can receive a negative opinion with its use. So depending upon where you are using it be quite sure that it will be acceptable in any given situation.

So, To Sum This Up in a Nut Shell

You could write resume, resume, or resum; my professional opinion would be to not use the spelling with only the one accented e. Again, it is not looked upon greatly and appears to be bad grammar and a lazy use of the word. It could be argued that, because the American language does put the importance on the first and primary syllable in the differentiation to the word resumethe first accent accordingly has some use for registering proper pronunciation. We accept this to a degree, that there is no real need for this. Subject to alterations, it seems to us that its natural for someone reading the word resum to put the primary stress on the first syllable. Thats because in English, a three-syllable word with an accent on the last syllable, normally again, as it seems to us gets the primary cause of strain on the first syllable.

Emphasized Syllables Within a Word

Emphasized syllables within a word are normally separated by one or more unemphasized syllables. Its on the basis of this rhythm pattern that an everyday speech substitute more gentle pronunciation, just as formal poetry does with its more precise diagram of sound. In resum, it would be a conflicting habit to have the strain on the second syllable, immediately followed by the secondary strain and the accent on the final syllable definitely indicates some stress there. So theres no need to write an accent to indicate the primary strain on the first syllable. When making your decision on the direction of how to spell resume, be positive that you will not be damaging any career opportunity lying ahead of you.
